Holding the Gap (0)

November 14th, 2012 by , under Guild Wars 2.

First off, thanks to everyone who came out for our WvWvW Guild night on Tuesday, it was a blast. The highlight of the battle-filled night was when we claimed and then fortified Mendon's Gap, deep within Blackgate's territory. At one point, we were forced to hold off a huge zerg of Blackgate players who came to reclaim their tower and wasted no time in setting up siege on the hill across from us.  It was a close battle, but we were eventually able to break them, thanks in large part to Obby and Mokey who were counter-sieging them with our own Trebuchet and catapult within the tower. Eventually the overwhelming Blackgate numbers managed to push out of Mendon's Gap, but by then we had already gained three ticks worth of points from it and those of us who were left retired to the jumping puzzle to cause further havoc there.

Earlier this week several of us made it into the Eternal Battlegrounds and we began an epic night filled with PvP action. Of particular note, we were involved in the taking Durios Gulch back from HoD and then proceeded to defend and fully upgrade the tower which we had claimed for S*F.  Special thanks to Genocalype, Jay Sylkleaf, Big Bozo and Scree for helping with the seige and supply runs!

Guild Wars 2 is Here! (0)

September 4th, 2012 by , under Guild Wars 2.

Well I'm a little late on this post, but Guild Wars 2 was released last week to hordes of excited players. Several existing S*F members picked up the game and along with friends have been playing on the Stormbluff Isle server. I think most would agree with me, that while the game still has a few minor issues to iron out, it is on a whole excellent and will most likely define how MMO's are made in the future. I hope that more old and new members alike will continue to pick up the game and join us for the awesomeness that is GW2.

At the lobby bar next door on Thursday afternoon, Mark Virnich, a 26-year-old from Baton Rouge, La., was waiting for other members of his World of Warcraft guild, called Shining Force. He said he had been playing with the group since 2004, including during two tours with the Army in Iraq, but he had never met his fellow players in person.

“We’ve been talking about coming for years, and I finally got back from Iraq and I’m like, ‘We’re going!’ ” he said. “We’ve got people coming from Nebraska, Ohio, West Virginia, Texas. We’ve got a few different couples that met in the guild and got married.”

He waved toward the convention center, where thousands of people were standing in line waiting to pick up their attendance badges in advance of the doors’ opening the next morning.

“This is definitely a cathartic experience being around so many people who also love what you love,” Mr. Virnich said. “What keeps people playing these kinds of games is the community, and for us to have the chance to all come together is just awesome.”

What you see written above, is an excerpt from the NY Times article Best Friends, in Fantasy and Reality which features an interview which took place at Blizzcon earlier this year with one of our long-time members, Caddar. Way to go Mr. Virnich, now our master plan for world domination is almost complete.

Heroic: Baleroc! (0)

September 15th, 2011 by , under World of Warcraft.

With less than a week to go before the impending Firelands nerfs, we murdered – in bloody fashion – Heroic Baleroc.  I think we are all glad that we managed to make 6/7 before the nerfs and now we are looking forward to the heroic grind that heroic Ragnaros is going to be.
